theASSEMBLY (thePLAN) of theHIVE

First one chassis was assembled to determine what the problems of assembly would be. As one would expect nothing goes together as one expects. Once the prototype (above) was assembled and tested, the chassis were assembled as many as four at a time per builder.

The assembly line of 4 unopened chassis.

Once the chassis are opened, they are prepared for assembly. Cable ties cut, wires routed, and in our case a fan had to be repositioned.

Floppy disk drive was installed.

2.5 GByte Hard disk drive was installed.

Mother board and Pentium Pro power regulators were installed.

Power cable connected. Reset, and LED wires connected. Hard drive and floppy drive cables connected. CPU fan power connected. Serial port connected. Video and network cards inserted. Fan ducting and disk drives repositioned. Then power up tests were performed.

The chassis was then closed up, screwed together, and power up tested again just in case any cables came loose during the close up procedure. Chassis assembly is complete.
